Cross Connection Program

A Cross Connection is any connection between potable (drinking) water, and non-potable (non-drinking) water.

Rockwood Water operates a Cross Connection Control Program to regulate affected customers who have altered their water services in such a way that they put the overall water system at risk of contamination. Here’s a link to Oregon Administrative Rule 333-061-0070 Cross Connection Control Requirements.

At present within the District, there are just under 1,400 service connections out of a total of 13,200 that are regulated under the program. Roughly 10% of our customers are responsible for meeting the District’s program requirements, which include: installation of approved backflow assemblies commensurate with the degree of hazard, annual testing (maintenance and repair when necessary) and certification to the District that the device(s) functions properly.
